TCE’s student organization Systers: Women in Electrical and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee hosted their annual Little Systers outreach event on February 5. This year, things were a little different since we extended the age range to include girls from kindergarten to 12th grade and made the event free. Instead of the usual 20 girls, we had approximately 80 attendees! Each had its targeted level of activities and crafts they participated in that taught them about coding, circuits, and even teamwork. All girls got to make conversation heart circuits, write Python code that created a computer-generated heart, partake in a Harry Potter themed coding project, and participate in many other fun learning experiences. We also partnered with Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians to bring more girls interested in STEM by awarding them badges for participating in the event.
